Dr. Stefani Reinold is a Reproductive Psychiatrist, mother of two, women’s mental health advocate, and creator of the online program, Push Past Postpartum, helping new mothers overcome depression and anxiety. Her mission is to encourage new moms to stop suffering and to start embracing motherhood.

Sunit interviews Dr Reinold about the rising incidence of PPD, why this is happening, and if it can be prevented.
She talks about the high expectations today, the lack of community and insistence of doing it alone.
They speak to the fact that once you are in it, PPD is not your fault and needs to be managed. But if you are expecting, there are definitely things you can do to try to alleviate it. Lack of sleep is a huge contributing factor so it is one of the things that needs to be kept in check.

Birth trauma, medical issues, and thyroid conditions can also be contributing factors. Past experiences and social and psychological actors are also at play.

Dr Reinold gives some great questions to assess your risk for PPD:
-how you are actually doing now, while pregnant (not when the veil is on, and not what you think you SHOULD be feeling but how you are actually feeling)
-how well you are sleeping now-is your lack of sleep being caused by current anxiety and depression?
-how have you dealt with stressful experiences in the past? If you were able to get through it well, you probably have a lower risk of PPD.

She offers a course for women who may be on the cusp of ppd or not able to afford professional help.

They talk about:
-how to raise children who are cultured and not racist
-what white privelege really means and what micro aggression is
-what are the things you can do with your children to ensure you are raising kind and racially aware kids who will also be good friends to their friends of color
-what is the optimum age to introduce these conversations and at what age it could be too late
-tips and resources for parents who truly do not know where to begin

Join Sunit as she shares the one practice you can adopt in your life to be truly free.

She shares one of her learnings from the book “The Four Agreements” and talks about one of the most profound practices that can change your life immensely: the art of not taking anything personally.

Listen in as she challenges you to recognize when you are triggered, shift the blame from everyone else to you, and free yourself from being responsible for others’ feelings.

She shares a quote by Emily Maroutian:

“I am not here for your understanding of who I am. I am here for your understanding of who you are. I am your mirror. How you feel about me, what you see in me, the thoughts that arise from your encounter of me, the judgments you hold about me, are all reflections of you. They have nothing to do with me.”
