Dr. Stefani Reinold is a Reproductive Psychiatrist, mother of two, women’s mental health advocate, and creator of the online program, Push Past Postpartum, helping new mothers overcome depression and anxiety. Her mission is to encourage new moms to stop suffering and to start embracing motherhood.

Sunit interviews Dr Reinold about the rising incidence of PPD, why this is happening, and if it can be prevented.
She talks about the high expectations today, the lack of community and insistence of doing it alone.
They speak to the fact that once you are in it, PPD is not your fault and needs to be managed. But if you are expecting, there are definitely things you can do to try to alleviate it. Lack of sleep is a huge contributing factor so it is one of the things that needs to be kept in check.
Birth trauma, medical issues, and thyroid conditions can also be contributing factors. Past experiences and social and psychological actors are also at play.
Dr Reinold gives some great questions to assess your risk for PPD:
-how you are actually doing now, while pregnant (not when the veil is on, and not what you think you SHOULD be feeling but how you are actually feeling)
-how well you are sleeping now-is your lack of sleep being caused by current anxiety and depression?
-how have you dealt with stressful experiences in the past? If you were able to get through it well, you probably have a lower risk of PPD.
She offers a course for women who may be on the cusp of ppd or not able to afford professional help.

Lindsay and Sunit talk about how having a job or position that you are truly passionate about becomes more important when you are leaving your kids for 40 plus hours per week.
Lindsay talks about all the considerations she gave to being a part of this project and why she decided to make the leap.
Lindsay has 4 kids and 2 of them were under the age of 3 at that time so Sunit asks her for tips on how you navigate a startup/new business when you have young kids.
Listen in as they talk about:

-how you can offload tiny household jobs onto your kids, no matter what age they are

Lindsay says this feeling is rare and if you have that feeling, you HAVE to go for it. The anxiety of doing something is way worse than actually doing it.
They talk about the immense power of moms, and that we have the skills to do ANYTHING we put our minds to. Sunit says we have to take our power back. It is a superpower to be a mother. We undervalue ourselves- for anyone listening right now…you are not JUST a mom.
They talk more about the Jiobit. It is a wearable location tracker that coordinates with your phone to tell you where your child is. It tracks your child in real time. It is a highly encrypted device that only allows YOU to track them. There are no distance limitations so you can track your child even if you are not in the same part of the world. Operates on similar technology to your phone.

Cynthia Spitalny is President and Founder of Shewill, which is dedicated to getting women to own their voices and their value. Her super power is getting women to own their value via becoming master negotiators in every aspect of their lives, including with employers, vendors, partners, children, husbands, and friends.  She is currently building a negotiating course for women as her first major product that will be launching in 2017. Cynthia has been published in the Elite Daily, MindBodyGreen, and LinkedIn.
Be inspired as Cynthia shares her story about coming up with solutions to support more “female friendly” policies at her workplace.
Sunit shares a personal story about why she feels that negotiation skills are especially important for moms to be and new moms. She didn’t even attempt to negotiate when she was in an unfavourable situation of returning to work after having babies and wishes she would have tried.
Cynthia talks about the top things a woman going off on mat leave or returning from a mat leave should keep in mind, it is really just about knowing what you want and starting a conversation. The most important thing is to know and own your value. what do you bring to the table? Leverage that. For a company to replace you would cost way more than working with you to come to an agreement.
Sunit asks what to do when you ask for what you want an the employers says no. Listen in as Cynthia talks about why no is just the beginning of the conversation, among many other great tips!
